AirPort Express 是一款可以提供 Wi-Fi 接入的無線路由器，由苹果公司生产，隶属于AirPort 产品线。 它比其他 Apple 基站更小巧，也更易于配置。和 AirPort Extreme 不同的是，这款無線路由器可以輸出音频。若与其他计算机共同部署在本地网络中，可通过 AirPlay 从计算机上 iTunes 串流播放音频，这是第一款支持该功能的设备。其能耗之低也远超能源之星项目对小型网络设备的严苛要求。(Small Network Equipment,SNE Version 1.0.) [1]
苹果在2018年停止开发其无线路由器,[2] 但截至2021年 (2021-Missing required parameter 1=month!)[update]，仍对该产品的后续型号提供有限支持。[3]

当 AirPort Express 连接至以太网时，可作为无线接入点使用，最新型号支持最多50个用户连接。经过特定配置后，还可以作为无线网桥来使用，也可以用来拓展网域，完成诸如音频服务器或共享打印机的工作。2012 年六月推出型号包括两个以太网接口：一个 WAN 口和一个 LAN 口。[4]
最早版本的 AirPort Express (M9470LL/A, 型号 A1084) 于 2004 年 7 月 7 日发布，包含一个TOSLINK光纤音频接口，一个可用于 iPod 充电（只支持 iPod Shuffle）和共享打印机的USB接口和一个以太网接口。802.11g 版本的基站芯片组来自博通，型号BCM4712KFB，包含一颗核心频率200MHz的MIPS架构处理器。音频输出功能由德州仪器提供了型号为 Burr-Brown PCM2705的16位数模转换器。
于 2008 年 3 月发布的新一代 AirPort Express (MB321LL/A, 型号 A1264）支持更快的 802.11n 草案标准，可工作在2.4 GHz和5 GHz频段上。[5]中国大陆地区在 5 月开始售卖，定价人民币 768 元。 [6]
AirPort Express 使用的3.5mm 音频接口同时支持 mini-TOSLINK 光学数字信号转换，允许设备连接到外部数模转换器(DAC)，或经由内部DAC后连接至音频放大器。标准音乐 CD 首先被转录至 iTunes ，然后使用 Apple 无损音频编码格式串流至 AirPort Express 时，将会输出和原始 CD 音质完全一致的数据流，（此时 iTunes 的任何声音增强设定将被禁用）。 若 CD 采用DTS编码（在 iTunes 中播放会显示为噪声），在使用 TOSLINK 连接至支持 DTS 的音频解码器时可以被正确播放。[7] iTunes 限制了采样速率，在串流时最多只能达到 16 位 44.1kHZ，任何高于此速率的音频流，如 24 位/192kHZ 音频流会先降格至此标准后才串流。[需要完整来源]
在OS X Lion或更早版本的系统上，无线传流只能从 iTunes 的音频文件提取，无法播放视频文件中的音轨部分。[8] 从OS X Mountain Lion开始提供的 AirPlay 支持使音频串流功能可以从操作系统处直接取得声音。再通过 AirPort Express 串流音频时可以直接播放所有系统内的声音。[9] 例如，播放一部受保护的电影时，声音也可以正常串流。该功能包括一个音画同步的特性，若正在播放的视频格式被 QuickTime Player 所支持（例如使用Safari 播放 HTML5视频），音频输出会自动与画面同步，从而消除延迟现象。
对 Windows 和早期 Mac 操作系统(OS X Mountain Lion之前的版本) 有些软件可以将系统音频串流至 AirPort Express，比如 Airfoil （页面存档备份，存于互联网档案馆）, TuneBlade （页面存档备份，存于互联网档案馆） 和 Porthole （页面存档备份，存于互联网档案馆）。
2018 年 8 月 28 日，Apple 为 2012 款 AirPort Express 添加了AirPlay 2 支持，使其能够被添加到家居应用中作为音频对象使用。[10]
停产和后续支持[编辑]
彭博社 2016 年 11 月 21 日的报道称，“据知情人士透露，苹果已解散其无线路由器部门，这是该公司试图提高其消费产品利润的又一举措。[11]
9to5Mac 2018 年 4 月的报道称,[2] Apple 宣布停产 AirPort 产品线，事实上退出了消费路由器市场。[12]Apple 宣布将继续支持 AirPort Express ，尽管其早期型号还是需要旧版本“AirPort 实用工具”才能配置。[13]
